Futil internal mental function is of two types. One which regist human from performing responsible necessary universal well being deed. Other is of nature of encouraging human to engage into deed which harm the world which is not acceptable by society. Like someone may be unnecessary spoiling money, someone may be unnecessary killing animal-bird and little plant.

O Arjuna! You consider “Tamo-Gun” which attract entire body livingbeing is caused by ignorance or lack of knowledge. This bond soul with internally futil affort of nerves and mind, laziness and sleep. (Bhagwat-Gita: 14/08)

“Tamash” is most inferior among the three “satvik-rajash-tamsh Gun”. This “Tamash-Gun” is caused due to ingnorance, lack of divine knowledge and foolishness and attract entire body living being community. Human driven by “Tamash-Gun” totally lack sense of knowledge and intelligence to acknowledge truth-untruth, responsibility-irresponsibility. It reduces the influnce of “Rajash-Gun” and deprived human even from material-joy and accumulation and similarly by reducing “Satvik-Gun” deprive human from performing good worldly or heavenly deed.

Sleeping continuouuslly, seating not doing anything, not performing the necessary task, and thinking that I will do it latter on and keep on postponing are example of laziness. edily

Here mentioned sleep is not ordinary sleep which refersh the nerve-sense of human, it is ignorance of light and awareness, day and night busy in fulfilling materialistic desire. Internally mind is not awaken it is in sleeping mode. The human who lack sense intelligence is similar to animal who some how manage to eat in day and sleep in night. Unnecessary sleep is subject of abandoning (Bhagwat-Gita:06/16).
